Amber holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) from MAHSA University, Malaysia and she is in charge of sports massage and deep tissue massage at Rehab Alliance, K.H Poon Physiotherapy.
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique used to treat musculoskeletal issues such as muscle pain and stiffness. Firm and sustained pressure is used to manipulate deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues for trigger point release and encourage blood flow to the muscles.
Sports massage is being more area-specific to loosen and realign muscle fibres in individuals who experience sport-related tension due to high training volume. Sports massage not only provides a small benefit in reducing or preventing DOMS and induces a small but significant improvement in flexibility compared with no intervention (Davis HL, et al., 2020)
Other than manual therapy, modalities like heat therapy and shockwave are considered in order to achieve a better outcome.
