Patient who has right sided stroke, may tend to neglect the left side of the body and shifting the body weight more onto the non-affected side. Thus, the body alignment will be altered affecting the body biomechanics. Stroke patient may have weakness on one side of the body, either the hands, arms or lower legs – affecting their daily functional activities. Besides that, problems with motor control, memory or thinking, sensory disturbances, including pain and joint position (proprioception) are also common. [1]
We treat the disabilities related to motor and sensory impairments. The rehabilitation programme aimed at minimizing patient’s impairments and maximizes their function by gaining control over the motor functions. We also educate them on the preventive measures so to reduce further complications. [2]
Our strategy is to follow the principle “Use it or lose it”. [3] We encourage the use of impaired limbs by practicing the correct movement pattern, so that the brain can retain the newly learned skills. In addition, we include some sensory stimulation techniques (stroking/ tapping), active and passive range of motion exercises, PNF- Proprioceptive Neuromuscular facilitation, mirror therapy, strengthening exercises and gaming activities.
